Thus says Jehovah, Heaven is My throne, and the earth the footstool for My feet. Where then is the house that you will build for Me,
and where is the place of My rest? - - Isaiah 66:1

God’s intention and desire is to have house, a dwelling place, where He can rest. In the New Testament, this dwelling place is the church, the Body of Christ. The greatest prophecy in the New Testament is Christ’s word to His disciples: I will build My church – Matthew 16:18b

It is with this prophecy in view that we have the burden to present this collection of psalms, hymns and spiritual songs to encourage us all to participate and labor in the building up of the church, His Body. For this building work, the Apostle Paul prayed twice in the book of Ephesians, first, that we may have a vision of Christ and the church, and second, that we may have the experience of Christ for the building up of the church:

That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the full knowledge of Him. – Ephesians 1:17.
That He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit into the inner man, that Christ may make His home in your hearts through faith. – Ephesians 3:17-18.

This experience of Christ making His home in our hearts is the salvation of our soul. He wants to spread from our spirit into all the parts of our soul in order to sanctify us, transform us and conform us to the image of the firstborn Son of God (Romans 8:28-29). Today God is looking to man, even to us, to give ourselves, our lives, for this building work. There is no purpose in life higher or greater than this.
